Will the Lap Band be right for me?

I am 22 years old and weigh 315 lbs. The most I have ever weighed is 362 lbs. I have been struggling with my weight my entire life and have tried weight watchers and other weight loss programs. I have also tried cutting down my food intake drinking more water and increasing exercise but i have a very hard time after losing 50lbs and usually give up. Is the lapband right for me? I was scared that it may affect the food intake of your child if I ever decide to have children. I am also scared about the change it may make in my everyday life.

It sounds like you’ve made some good choices and healthy attempts at losing weight, but as we all know, it’s very difficult to keep the weight off in the long term even with the best of plans. Food portions at restaurants are simply out of control as is the amount of extra calories packed into almost all commercial food products in the form of high fructose corn syrup.
What I like about the band is that it allows you to eat small portions and feel full and not be starving 24/7. Yes, making healthy food choices is a lifestyle change, but it’s not like an Atkins diet or something where you have to change everything about the way you eat. We advise 3 small meals and a protein snack every day – not a lot different from what you’re probably doing now.
As to pregnancy, I believe the band is the safest choice out there. Because it’s adjustable, the band can be loosened during pregnancy and breast feeding to allow for the extra calories you may need during that time. It can then be adjusted back afterwards to help you lose weight gained during that period.
