I already have a lap band and after 3 years I have gained about 40 pounds back. My current doctor won’t do a revision, where can I find a doctor that will do a lap band revision in my area?

What do you mean by a revision? A new LapBand? Conversions to a gastric sleeve or gastric bypass? I don’t see a need to do anything surgically simply because you have gained weight. One option might be to get an esophagram (some call it a swallow study) to evaluate the position of your Lap Band and ensure your gastric pouch isn’t dilated. Another step could be to access the port and check the fluid in the Band. If those are fine, then you need to address your approach to lifestyle changes. Just last week I saw a lady in our practice how had the LapBand about 6 years ago when she was 62 years old. She has lost 130 pounds, and now 6 years later at the age of 68 she has kept it off. If nothing is wrong with your LapBand, don’t revise the Band, revise what you are doing.
The only thing that causes you to lose weight with the Lap Band is fewer calories crossing your lips than your body uses up every day, period. Conversely, the only thing that can cause weight gain with a Lap Band is too many calories crossing your lips. If the band is positioned and adjusted properly, it will help make sure you are not hungry while eating fewer calories. But is up to you.
The Band is 10 times safer than any other weight loss operation. Many times it is imposible to know about the Band’s position and stomach pouch size without having an X-ray while you drink contrast, an Upper GI or esophagram.
