Our patients have lost over 100,000 pounds over the past 12 years and there’s one food I want them to avoid this Superbowl Sunday.

Cheese. I would like them to avoid cheese at all costs.

This is two-and-a-half ounces of shredded cheese

and this is those two-and-a-half ounces of cheese when they are melted on chips.

Looks a lot less than it really is.

This two-and-a-half ounces of melted cheese on these chips is a portion of between 290 and 410 calories depending on the type of cheese.

That’s right this little snack right here is between 290 and 410 calories depending on the type of cheese.

A low-fat cheese has around 60 calories an ounce and other cheese has 110 calories per ounce. An ounce of chips has 140 calories.

So this Superbowl Sunday stay away from nachos from cheese dip, any kind of melted cheese. They have a lot more calories than you realize.
