Broiled fish stuck in my Lap Band.

lapband questions

I ate a piece of broiled fish at 11 am today and got immediately nauseous and vomited. I have been ill 3 more times since and have called my doctor who will give me an adjustment tomorrow at 1:30pm. What, if anything, can I do to alleviate my extreme pain?

I’m sorry to hear that happen to you. It is not common for fish to cause the problem you mentioned. In fact, you should rarely and almost never have nausea or vomiting with most foods with the Lap Band. In fact, that may be a sign that you have been too tight all along and you should think if you have had other episodes of food getting stuck.

But let’s talk about your issue right now. If you feel that a piece of food might be stuck in your stomach, we recommend to our patients to take some meat tenderizer, mix it with a quarter cup to half cup of water and to slowly drink that. It often will help break up the food. Some patients report pineapple juice working just as well to help break up food.

Obviously, if you continue to have any serious symptoms or problems, you should call your doctor back immediately or go to the Emergency Room. But in most cases this will pass on its own. Feel better :)
